Reliant Pharmaceuticals, LLC Announces $252 Million Closing Of Series D Convertible Preferred Units
December 11, 2003
Liberty Corner, NJ -- Reliant Pharmaceuticals, LLC, a privately held, pharmaceutical company that markets branded, patent-protected pharmaceutical products to primary care physicians, today announced the second closing of its Series D financing. In addition to the $115 million issued in connection with the initial closing, Reliant raised an additional $137 million, bringing the Series D financing round to a total raise of $252 million, including the exchange of $37 million of existing secured debt in the initial round.
Proceeds from the second closing will be used to acquire new product rights, expand the sales force and for general corporate purposes. The second closing included an incremental investment from Invemed Catalyst Fund, which led the round, as well as investments from Baron Growth Fund, Goldman, Sachs & Co. and others.
The company also announced the closing, effective December 3, 2003, of the previously announced purchase of the U.S. rights to the Rythmol® (propafenone HCl) product family from Abbott Laboratories. This acquisition represents a significant expansion of Reliant’s cardiovascular product franchise.
Dr. Ernest Mario, Reliant’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, noted, “We expect this to be our last round of private financing on our way to becoming a profitable, self-sustaining business. The $252 million of Series D financing will fund the further expansion of our business through acquisitions like Rythmol®.”
