Epocrates Launches Two New Mobile Medical Applications
Clinicians Benefit from Easy Access to Coding Reference and Medical Dictionary
For Immediate Release
February 27, 2007
SAN MATEO, CA -- As part of an ongoing effort to provide healthcare professionals with valuable clinical information at the point of care, Epocrates, Inc. today announced the launch of two new mobile applications. The company’s new ICD-9/CPT® reference helps clinicians quickly identify procedural and diagnostic billing codes, while the medical dictionary enables users to reference over 100,000 medical terms within seconds.
“I have relied on Epocrates for years to help provide better, safer care for my patients. Now with these new applications, I can also rely on Epocrates to better manage financial aspects of my practice and lookup unfamiliar terms instantly,” said Luke Johnsen, DO.
Physicians receive financial reimbursement based on designated diagnostic (ICD-9) and procedural (CPT) codes. To ease this process, the Epocrates® Coder application allows clinicians to conveniently access over 20,000 routinely updated ICD-9 and CPT billing codes. Instant access to these codes at the point of care will help clinicians more accurately identify the appropriate codes needed for service reimbursement.
The Epocrates® Medical Dictionary allows healthcare professionals to quickly access medical terms and eponyms on their mobile devices. The new product incorporates content from Stedman’s Medical Dictionary 28th Edition into a user-friendly format that utilizes significantly less memory than many other reference applications.
“Today more than one in four physicians and nearly one in two medical students trust Epocrates for up-to-date clinical information. The introduction of these new products is a direct result of feedback and support from our loyal customers. We believe these new products will help our users practice more efficiently and also help us drive new user growth,” said Kirk Loevner, chairman and chief executive officer of Epocrates.
The two new products are also available as part of Epocrates Essentials® Deluxe, which combines all of Epocrates' premium drug, disease and diagnostic information into a single suite. This provides clinicians with decision support throughout the entire patient encounter - from examination to treatment to billing.
